Knoxville Wedding Photographer | Amanda & Reece | Clinton, TN

It’s not very often you get to work with a couple that has been dating since MIDDLE SCHOOL! Before I even told anyone the story of these two, I showed my aunt the pictures and she mentioned that she could feel and was overcome by the love at this wedding as she looked through the photos. I would say that perfectly sums up Amanda and Reece’s wedding weekend.

Amanda wore a fun dress for her photos and reception, but changed into her grandmothers bridal gown for the ceremony. Yes…her grandmothers! The story of this gown gets even neater as we found out it was also worn by her mother, who was even married in the same church! What an honor to grandma and mom!  One of my favorite parts of the day is when Amanda and Reece brought their 8 month old son, Harrison up as they completed their vows and walked out as a family. What an amazing weekend! Thank you for choosing us to capture the beautiful memories of your day!

Nashville Wedding Photographer | Christina & David | Scarritt Bennett Wightman Chapel

We were given the inside scoop that David would be getting a surprise as the new couple walked into the reception. You see, David has been teasing Christina about their furry babies (their two dogs) not getting to be part of their wedding day. He tried every tactic to get her to allow them to be ring bearers, flower girls, chauffeurs…you name it, he mentioned it. Christina, knowing that the prestigious Scarritt Bennett probably wouldn’t be too keen on two dogs running though the chapel just kept ignoring the subject. BUT, as they were announced as Mr. and Mrs. at the reception and were about to sit down, the song “Who Let the Dogs Out” came on and out ran Bubba and Kripke (stopping to say hi to everyone on the way to their mom and dad)!

Christina and David were married at Scarritt Bennett’s beautiful Wightman Chapel with their reception at Houston Station. The whole day was perfect, from her happy tears to his ear to ear grin. Christina was a knock out as she swished her dress playfully back and forth and gleamed at her new husband in the walkways of the old Scarritt campus. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your day! It was perfect!

Franklin Wedding Photographer | JoRae & Curtis | Vanderbilt Legends Club

When I unzipped the garment bag and pulled out her very full, very detailed, delicate lace dress, I knew Curtis was going to melt when he saw JoRae walk down the aisle. JoRae was radiant, grinning from ear to ear as she sashayed to the middle of the church and waited for Curtis to turn around and see her for the first time all day. When Curtis turned around, her beauty took his breath away as tears of pride and joy welled up in his eyes.

During the ceremony, JoRae and Curtis recited their own vows. There wasn’t a dry eye in the church as they tearfully (with a few adorable voice cracks by Curtis) pronounced their love and commitment to one another.

We loved every minute we got to spend with you guys during the entire wedding process! It doesn’t get much better than getting to be a part of such an important day in the lives of a couple so dear to our hearts. What a beautiful day. Love you guys!

Nashville Wedding Planner | Jennifer Hamilton | Taking away the stress and making wedding planning fun

Most of us have dreamed of our perfect wedding day since we were just a little girl walking our lock-kneed Barbie down the aisle to kiss Ken. We’re guilty of eye-balling the wedding magazines at the grocery store. We’re pinning boards labeled “One Day,” “For the Future,” or “My Dream Wedding.” We all dream about that day. That one day a normal girl gets to become a princess. That day where all our favorite people and all our favorite things surround us.

However, creating this perfect day with all the etiquette, vendors, and accessories with your vision in mind isn’t always as simple as we hope. I’ve seen and heard one too many times how stressful planning a wedding can get, and the toll it may take on the bride and her mom. So, what do you do if you know you are too busy to tackle it yourself or have already tried and decided it’s just too much? Hire a wedding planner! Now, I’m not recommending hiring just any old wedding planner. Be sure you check out work they’ve done in the past, and meet with them to be sure you click personality-wise because you are going to be communicating with this person A LOT in the next few months. There are wedding planners who do everything from budget planning to lighting the sparklers as you leave the reception, to planners who just come out to direct people down the aisle during the ceremony. If you choose the right wedding planner for you, they will help take stress out of the equation and actually make the planning fun.

Nashville Wedding Planner Jennifer Hamilton

That being said, meet the talented Jennifer Hamilton of Mr. and Mrs. Events. Jennifer does a little bit of everything, from “month of” coordinating to planning the entire wedding from scratch. I’ve met with her myself and can tell you right now that any bride of ours will love her sweet and fun personality!! I asked her to answer a few questions about herself and her work in hopes of connecting her with those of you looking for help.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

-Family?

My husband, Craig, and I have lived in Nashville for 5 years. Most of our family is in lovely Alabama, where I grew up. {Roll Tide!!} I have amazing parents, parents-in-law, 3 siblings, 4 siblings-in-law and a fabulous niece and 2 nephews….. who we are slightly obsessed with.

-Hobbies?

When I’m not planning or designing events, Craig and I love to watch movies together. It’s a pretty passionate pastime of ours. We throw big Oscar parties every year and try to see everything that’s nominated from Best Picture to Best Documentary. I also enjoy a good Broadway musical and love to travel…we’re leaving for London tomorrow!! I’m quite passionate about food as well {who isn’t?} and love trying out different Nashville restaurants.

-Any other fun facts?

Just like everyone else in Nashville, I’m a singer. Before I moved to Nashville, I was very involved in musical theater and actually have a degree in voice. When I first moved here I did the National Anthem for the Nashville Sounds some but haven’t had time to do much else since then. It’s something I still love, however, and would like to be involved with in the future!! {I have a secret desire to learn to tap as well!}

How did you get into wedding planning?

Entertaining has been an obsession of mine ever since I was little. I always wanted to have my friends and my parents’ friends over at our home for “get-togethers”.  From a very young age I was happiest when we had loved ones in the house to eat, laugh and share stories. My love for entertaining spilled over into my high school and college days as well…. I was always planning something. I constantly looked for a reason to throw a party and really any reason was good enough for me. After a few years of being in the corporate world in PR and marketing, I thought, why not make a career of something I’ve loved to do since I was a kid?

Explain a little bit to all the brides out there exactly what you do and why you are a rock star on their wedding day.

I offer wedding planning services from “Month Of” coordinating to full wedding planning. Different brides require different services so I create packages to meet each bride’s unique needs. My full planning services include everything from creating a budget and choosing vendors to creating your timeline and directing the actual wedding day.

One of the focuses of my business {and my favorite part of planning} is helping a bride with the design and overall look of her wedding. I adore brides that come to me with great ideas that I can put into an “inspiration board”. This allows us to be creative and start brainstorming on all the ways we can add different elements to get the style just right for each couple and their unique personalities and interests. I also enjoy a good DIY project and love getting my hands dirty with fun wedding day crafts. My fingers have been cemented together with hot glue more times than I’d like to mention….

Advice for all our brides to be?

Just be yourself!! Don’t be afraid to do things a little nontraditionally or add fun details. It’s your wedding so make it your own. And, of course, hire a planner who understands your ideas and can create your unique event exactly the way you’ve envisioned it.

Thanks so much Jennifer! Have a great time in London!!

Wedding predictions for 2013

With the beginning of busy season just around the corner, I thought I’d share a few of the wedding predictions for 2013 I’ve seen that have gotten me even more excited about what’s to come this year. Before I start, I want to say that I’m in no way an expert, these are just cool or interesting things I’ve seen that I thought I’d pass along to possibly peak your creativity while you start, or put the finishing touches on your wedding plans.

Wedding Cakes – I’m loving this years cakes! They are ruffly, dainty and as girly as can be! With neutral colors being hot this year, the mint colored, or cream colored cakes with light colored flowers are huge. I’ve also seen some cakes adorned in jewels in honor of The Great Gatsby and Downton Abbey (my favorite show!!). Diamonds, lace, feathers, and pearls are another big accessory to this years cakes.

Wedding Colors – This is kind of a toss up because I’ve heard two different sides to this subject. Bright, bold colors or neutrals. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

If you are going for bright colors, patterns would be super cute to incorporate into the wedding somehow (chevron, stripes, florals). You could use pattern in napkins, cakes, table runners, ties, handkerchiefs and even bridesmaid dresses. It’s also cute when the bridesmaids have a bright dress on with a bright bouquet of another color. For instance (bright pink dress with bright yellow bouquet…I’ve seen switching colors for shoes too). When using bright colors and patterns, just remember, less is often more.

My favorite color theme right now is neutrals. Mint, pink, gold, grey taupe, cream, whites…it’s just so elegant. You could even add lace into the mix to give it some texture. Pretty much every single photo I’ve seen with neutrals get’s pinned onto my Pinterest page in some fashion. Oh, and the soft lambs ear and hens and chicks succulents as an accent in bouquets and centerpieces is to die for in Laurie standards. :)

Reception lounge – This is perfect for the older or younger guests at your reception. If I had a dollar for every time I overheard an older couple talking about the loud, obnoxious music at a reception I’d be quite a wealthy individual. So the trend of making a comfy little lounge area for those that don’t want to bust out a little Gangnam Style, but would rather just sit and chat with friends and family they haven’t seen in years is a brilliant idea. It’s also great for parents with kids if you set up a game/craft area to keep the little ones busy.2013 wedding flowers peonies

Wedding Flowers – I have to mention the big thing for this years flowers because I’m so excited to see what our brides are carrying! The flower trend for 2013 is more formal, less “weedy” looking. Meaning, it looks like you pulled your flowers straight out of an old english garden. Everything is perfection. Less loose, wispy wildflower look and more perfectly coordinated and perfectly complimentary flowers. AND, according to BridalGuide.com, the flower of the year is the Peony, my fav! Since peonies only bloom for a few months of the year, the garden rose is the perfect substitute.

Virtual wedding – We saw a little bit of this last year with FaceTime, but this year it’s supposed to be even bigger. Setting up an Instagram hashtag for those that can’t attend to keep up with the day or having a videographer who is able to live stream the wedding for you online.2013 virtual wedding trend

Local goodies – Infuse a little of your hometown into your wedding by providing local wine or beer, having a local food truck come out (huge this year) instead of a catered event or using a local, non-chain restaurant to cater. I’ve also seen the idea of picking up products unique to your state or town to put in your “Welcome” goody bags at the hotel for each guest. Such a cute idea!

Camping – This one is kind of weird to me, but since I love camping I can’t wait to see how it goes. Apparently Matthew Mcconaughey made it popular with his wedding when he set up tents for each guest to stay in? SO…I’m guessing when they say the camping theme will be popular in 2013 they might mean a cabin venue, s’mores station, bringing the outdoors in with ferns, trees or other mossy decorations, or a play tent for the kids (that would actually be really cute). But I’m excited to see what other creative ideas 2013′s brides come up with around the camping theme.

Wedding Venues – We will continue to see couples choosing a location that is unique to their personality. Vineyards, parks, historic mansions, mountaintops, at their parents house…the more customizable the better for 2013.2013 wedding trend - unique venue

1920 Inspired – Thanks to inspiration of The Great Gatsby movie coming out this year, we will see a lot of beautiful headpieces and unique veils this year. Cakes can be jeweled or feathered. Chandeliers will be everywhere. Attire will be more like a black tie affair.

That’s it for now! If I come across any other cool ideas I’ll be sure to share. Until then, you can keep up with pretty cakes, flowers, unqiue wedding ideas, shoes, hairstyles, and gowns I’m loving on my Pinterest page: www.pinterest.com/streetlightrep.

Happy pinning and planning!
