Glitz, Glam & a little bit of guy stuff | A glimpse of 2011

Here is a look back at some of our favorite photos from 2011. I like to think of it as our very own virtual time machine, or Delorean if you will (if you’re too young to know about “Back to the Future” please excuse the bad joke).

Thank you for the opportunities, friendships, happy tears and belly laughs along the way. You make us smile! :)

Cheers to you for making our dreams a reality!

Happy New Year,

Will & Laurie

Wedding Photographer | Lauren & John | Franklin, TN

Nine and a half years ago Lauren and John saw their first love story together at the movies. On July 9th, they added to their own. Lauren was completely glowing all day as she prepared to see John for the first time. A few weeks before the wedding they decided they wanted to do a first look so they could go straight to the reception afterwards. As she walked out to meet him in the alley of The Factory her eyes welled up with tears of joy (and I almost lost it). John was smitten with her beauty in that moment; in fact you could see a little gleam in his eye each time he glanced at her throughout the night. The two of them seemed to soak up every moment of their beautiful day surrounded by family and friends. They were married at Southgate Studio and Fine Art Gallery in the Factory at Franklin with their reception in the commons of the Factory. It was such a perfect venue for them with tons of character. Thank you for allowing us to share this special time with you guys! We’ve really enjoyed getting to know you and your family!!

Wedding Locations | Historic Oaklawn Plantation | Spring Hill, TN

*le sigh* I’ve fallen in love with Historic Oaklawn Plantation. Our first visit to the beautiful home was a few years ago for Kari’s bridal portrait session and I still can’t get enough of it.

As you pull up the long drive you’re welcomed by old boxwoods (which seem to be just as old as the house) that line the brick walkway. The front of the house is incredible with it’s double story porch and big white columns. You can just imagine the lady of the house standing on the top porch waiting and watching for her true love to come home. Most weddings take place with the front of the house in the background under the big oak trees. The grounds and ceremony area are covered with old oak trees — one that’s base is so wide it would take about 6 people holding hands to encompass it. Behind the house, by an old cabin, bright red barns, and a courtyard is where most choose to have their reception. The inside of the house is a whole different blog post! Mr. Shuff has maintained the history of the house with beautiful antique decor and trimmings. If you want to see photos of the inside let me know and I’ll send you some of Kari’s bridal portraits.

Wedding Locations | Tap Root Farm | Franklin, TN

Sounds of happy horses greet you as you drive up the long lane to Tap Root Farm. The Victorian home is surrounded by acres and acres of rolling hills and wildflowers. Most weddings take place either on the front lawn or in front of the artsy black and red barn surrounded by horses and hills as far as the eye can see. The backyard or a nearby field can be tented for dinner and dancing. The farm continues across the street and up a horse covered hill. This part of the farm has a beautiful courtyard attached to the house (perfect for a small wedding or cocktail hour), a screened in reception area facing the overlook and a patio with a pool.

For more information contact Susan: www.taprootfarm.com.

Oh, and a side note for those who missed it on Facebook — The horse below is Secretariat’s great, great granddaughter (as in the movie). How cool is that!?

Franklin, TN Wedding Location | Historic Carnton Plantation

Carnton Plantation is one of my favorite spots in Downtown Franklin. The mansion tells it’s story as you walk around the grounds visiting the boxwood garden, peaceful back porch and trees so old they actually witnessed the Battle of Franklin. It’s the perfect setting for a bride wanting an outdoor location with historic elegance and character in Franklin. There are several places that would make a beautiful location to have your ceremony — the porch of the mansion, by the “witness tree” with the mansion as your backdrop, or in front of the artistic boxwood garden (my fav). If you are married in front of the giant tree or garden, the aisle you will walk down to meet your groom is a wisteria covered trellis along the garden’s edge. After cocktail hour on the porch, your guests can explore the mansion (for an extra charge) before heading to your reception on the front lawn or in the Fleming Center.

This venue can hold up to 500 guests depending on where your events are held. Visit Carnton Plantation online for more information: www.Carnton.org.

I have to add that if  you’ve never visited and been on a tour of this beautiful mansion you are really missing out. The tour guides are incredible and the history at this place is just cool! Not to be gory, but something about seeing blood stained floors from amputations during a war almost 150 years ago just gives me chills. It’s a must see for those of you living here and visiting.
