Unique Wedding Ideas | Incorporating Loved Ones in Creative Ways | Nashville Wedding Photographers

One of the most creative and beautiful ideas I’ve seen in all our years of wedding photography was from Paige and Tim’s wedding a few years ago. I so wish I would have thought of this for our wedding!

Wanting to somehow include and show her love for her Mee Mee on her special day, Paige took the pattern from her grandmother’s china (shown below) and used it in different aspects throughout their wedding day. Her beautiful silk dress was handmade by a talented seamstress in Nashville. The seamstress took the china pattern and sewed it onto various layers of the skirt using rhinestones, pearls and buttons as accents.

You can imagine how amazed I was by her creativity already…but that wasn’t the end of it! We arrived at the reception full of GORGEOUS flowers and tree limbs (I’m sure I’ll do a post about that soon too!) and went back to photograph the cake. The wedding cake ALSO had Mee Mee’s china pattern on it! In fact, the cake was an exact copy of the bottom of Paige’s wedding dress. The repeating layers were of Mee Mee’s china pattern, buttons, and then the pleats at the bottom of her dress.

What a touching and beautiful detail to add to your wedding! I’m sure many guests had no idea about the china pattern and just overlooked the matching cake; but to Paige and Mee Mee, this was a very special and meaningful part of that very big, very perfect, once-in-a-lifetime day. Thanks for letting me share your amazing ideas on how to incorporate loved ones Paige!

If themes were in when Will and I were married, this may have been the winner for our wedding (this one and the romantic theme I did a few months back are about tied on the awesomeness factor). If you know us, you know we try to never stay home. We LOVE seeing new places, sipping fine wine and trying the unique culinary specialties of the areas we are visiting. Needless to say, I love this theme.

If you are world travelers (or even state travelers) this could be a really fun theme for you and your guests. Here are a few ideas I thought might be neat for the “traveler” wedding theme idea.

I’m picturing colors either being vintage and neutral or bright enough to match the hot air balloon you and your new husband could exit the wedding in. I don’t know if there is anything more romantic then the thought of taking a sunset tour over the city in a hot air balloon for your first adventure as husband and wife!

No matter what colors you choose to highlight on your wedding day, details for this theme could include old suitcases or boxes with fake (or real) postage on them, telegraphs and old phones, vintage toy airplanes, binoculars, eiffel tower statues, globes and maps.

You could design your wedding program to look something like a passport.

Use paper airplanes or fake boarding passes as your table assignment cards.

Have guests leave their greetings on old looking postcards. They can even take a polaroid of themselves to attach to the postcard before putting it in an old suitcase for you to look at later.

Favors my be mini chocolate airplanes, hot air balloon cupcakes or something else unexpected tucked away in a tiny box with a map or stamp on it.

The possibilities are really exciting! Most of all, add your very own personal thoughts on traveling and have fun!

Glitz, Glam & a little bit of guy stuff | A glimpse of 2011

Here is a look back at some of our favorite photos from 2011. I like to think of it as our very own virtual time machine, or Delorean if you will (if you’re too young to know about “Back to the Future” please excuse the bad joke).

Thank you for the opportunities, friendships, happy tears and belly laughs along the way. You make us smile! :)

Cheers to you for making our dreams a reality!

Happy New Year,

Will & Laurie

Michigan Wedding Photographer | Reese & Steve | Novi, MI

For those of you who are our Facebook followers, it is finally time to share the photos of my best friends big, long, huge, incredible wedding dress train. Reese and Steve were married 5 years ago but never took the time on their wedding day to get very many photos with each other . We spent an entire day getting her all beautified (since we didn’t get to do it together on her wedding day, this alone was so special to us) and finding the perfect spot and time to take her photos. The area in Michigan that they live is covered in lakes, ponds and swampy areas so I was pretty much in location heaven. The first place we choose was a cute covered bridge but I was so excited and full of ideas for our next stop that we didn’t play there for long. We pulled up to the white T-shaped dock as the sun was setting, put that long, long train on, and she hobbled down the dock to start shooting. (She had a florescent pink hard cast all the way up to her knee. Imagine walking in that huge dress with crutches – what a trooper!) As we stepped onto the dock the wind picked up like crazy. It caught her train in such a beautiful way I had to step back and just take it all in. The light, the wind, the couple…incredible. My favorite photo with the windy dress is the 2nd photo down on the right.

Nashville Wedding Photographer | Lizzy & Brian

Talk about a DIY genius! Lizzy created so much of her wedding by hand: the silk bouquets, the centerpieces, her cute hair piece (made out of the altered fabric from her dress)…just to mention a few. She also had a ton of 2012′s wedding trends like a dessert table where guests could make their own goodie bags, her pooches in the wedding, and those handmade fabric flowers.

They were married on a beautiful farm out in Springfield, TN. The yellow farm house was surrounded by hills, rivers and galloping horses. The fall colors popped out the day before her wedding (I swear it was like magic) and perfectly matched her pumpkin centerpieces and other fall decor.

As Lizzy walked out to meet Brian under that giant lone tree for their first look, time seemed to slow down, just for a second, as they ran into each others arms and didn’t let go. Your wedding was beautiful. Thanks for letting us be a part of it!

Aren’t these neat!? Plus you can keep them and they won’t turn to stinky popery.
